2026-10-19 03:40:02

Model Overview

The Suzuki e Vitara is Suzuki Motor Corporation's first global strategic mass-production battery electric vehicle (BEV), marking a pivotal milestone in the Vitara nameplate's transition into the electric era. The EV made its global debut in Milan, Italy in November 2024, was officially unveiled in Japan in September 2025, and first went on sale in the Japanese domestic market in January 2026, before rolling out across Europe, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. Built on Suzuki's newly developed dedicated EV platform, "HEARTECT-e", the e Vitara's design concept is dubbed "Emotional Versatile Cruiser", combining pure electric technology with Suzuki's compact car expertise and 4WD pedigree in a compact SUV package. Positioned as a global strategic model, it is manufactured at the Maruti Suzuki plant in India for export to over 100 countries and regions worldwide, and has not yet been officially introduced to the mainland Chinese market. Key rivals in the segment include the BYD Atto 3 and Hyundai Kona Electric.

Design Language

The exterior styling of the e Vitara is sculpted around the theme of "High-Tech & Adventure", blending the high-tech appeal of a pure EV with the rugged stance of an SUV. Up front, a closed-off grille highlights its all-electric identity, flanked by LED headlights with signature daytime running lights (DRLs) and an Adaptive High-beam System (AHS). The side profile features sharp, muscular character lines with polygonal surfaces, paired with 18-inch alloy wheels, prominent wheel arch claddings, and pronounced side skirts to accentuate its crossover appeal. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,635–1,640 mm tall, riding on a 2,700 mm wheelbase—the longest ever on a production Suzuki. A tight 5.2-metre minimum turning radius ensures nimble urban manoeuvrability.

Inside, the e Vitara adopts a minimalist and tech-forward cabin layout. The dashboard features a unified dual-screen setup comprising a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch central touchscreen infotainment display. The interior is trimmed in a dual-tone black and brown colour scheme, complemented by 12-colour ambient lighting. The seats are upholstered in a combination of fabric and synthetic leather with a two-tone finish. Shift duties are handled by a rotary electronic gear selector, while the floating centre console design enhances overall interior roominess. A selection of monotone and dual-tone exterior colours is available, including the exclusive "Land Breeze Green Pearl Metallic" finish.

Powertrain & Performance

The e Vitara is offered with two battery capacities across three powertrain configurations:

Variant Battery Capacity Drivetrain Max System Output Max System Torque WLTC Range
X (Base) 49 kWh FWD 106 kW (approx. 144 PS) 193 Nm 433 km
Z 2WD (Mid-spec) 61 kWh FWD 128 kW (approx. 174 PS) 193 Nm 520 km
Z 4WD (Top-spec) 61 kWh 4WD 135 kW (approx. 184 PS) 307 Nm 472 km

The traction battery utilizes a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry for superior thermal stability and service life. The EV supports 90 kW DC fast charging, replenishing from 10% to 80% state of charge in approximately 45 minutes. In Japan, prices across the three variants range from 3,993,000 to 4,928,000 Yen (approx. RM193,000 to RM238,000, inclusive of tax), and qualify for an 870,000 Yen (approx. RM42,000) clean energy vehicle government incentive.

Chassis & Handling

The e Vitara is underpinned by Suzuki's newly developed HEARTECT-e dedicated EV architecture, where the battery pack is integrated as a structural member into the floor, lowering the centre of gravity and boosting torsional rigidity. The suspension setup features front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent suspension. Ground clearance stands at 180 mm, offering confident capability over unpaved surfaces.

All-wheel-drive variants are equipped with Suzuki's new ALLGRIP-e electric 4WD system, which deploys independent electric motors on both the front and rear axles. The system features two selectable modes—AUTO and TRAIL —that dynamically adjust front-to-rear torque distribution based on driving conditions, delivering enhanced cornering stability and superior traction on slippery or unpaved terrain over FWD models. Total system torque on the 4WD version (307 Nm) is roughly 1.5 times that of the FWD variant (193 Nm). In addition, the drive mode selector offers NORMAL, ECO, and SPORT modes, with FWD variants gaining a dedicated SNOW mode.

Cabin & Equipment

Configured as a 5-seater, the e Vitara features rear seats with 160 mm of sliding travel and 10-step recline adjustment, improving passenger versatility and boot space flexibility. Boot capacity measures 238 to 310 litres in standard configuration, expandable up to 562 litres with the rear seats folded flat.

In terms of comfort and convenience kit, the EV comes equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and an electronic parking brake (EPB) with Auto Hold. Higher-spec variants add a panoramic glass roof, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat (with lumbar support), and a premium Infinity sound system (8 speakers with subwoofer). The infotainment unit supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, alongside the Suzuki Connect mobile app that allows owners to remotely monitor vehicle status, battery level, and cruising range, as well as remotely operate the climate control and seat heaters.

Safety & Driver Assistance

On the active safety front, the e Vitara is equipped with the full Suzuki Safety Support ADAS suite, offering Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities. The package includes: Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBS II) (autonomous emergency braking with forward collision warning and pedestrian/vehicle detection), Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Adaptive High-beam System (AHS) , and a Driver Monitoring System (DMS). For parking assistance, higher grades feature a 360-degree surround-view camera with front and rear parking sensors. Passive safety is bolstered by 7 airbags (including a driver's knee airbag) and an impact-sensing automatic door unlocking function.

Market Performance & Review

The e Vitara represents a key milestone in Suzuki's global electrification roadmap. In Japan, its price tag of 3,993,000 to 4,928,000 Yen positions it in the B-segment electric SUV bracket, garnering strong market attention on the back of Suzuki's compact car reputation and the unique selling point of the ALLGRIP-e 4WD system. In Europe, customer deliveries have commenced in markets such as Hungary, while the UK line-up starts from around £26,000 (after incentives) across Motion and Ultra trims. In the ASEAN region, the model made its debut in Indonesia in February 2026 with an entry price of IDR 755,000,000 (approx. RM348,000). An Australian market launch is scheduled for June 2026.

As Suzuki's inaugural venture into the global EV SUV arena, the e Vitara strikes a sensible balance between compact dimensions, 4WD heritage, and practical packaging, offering generous rear passenger room thanks to its 2,700 mm wheelbase. Its adoption of LFP battery chemistry also reflects Suzuki's pragmatic approach to cost control, durability, and safety. That said, compared to rivals boasting higher DC fast-charging capacities and longer driving ranges, the e Vitara's 45-minute DC fast-charging duration and max range of around 520 km (WLTC) are modest by current EV benchmarks. Overall, the e Vitara stays true to Suzuki's no-nonsense, pragmatic DNA—though whether it can emulate the enduring global sales success of the petrol-powered Vitara in an increasingly competitive EV landscape remains to be seen.
